FAQS about Buckwheat Pillows & Grain Filled Products
|
Can they be heated in the microwave?
We do not recommend heating hull-filled products. The hulls are too dry to hold
heat well, and can even ignite if heated for too long.
How can I adjust the firmness?
Our pillows are quite full for maximum firmness. By unzipping
the cover, you can pour out some hulls (be sure to save them!).
Fewer hulls will make a "softer" pillow. | |
How long will the pillow last?
Our pillows will last at least ten years with proper care. The hulls will
lose about 6% volume in the first year or two, after which more hulls
can be added.
Why use a buckwheat or millet hull pillow?
- using the pillow promotes relaxation; relief from neck pain and pressure on
ear - air can flow through pillow for cooling the head and moisture dispersal
- it is hypoallergenic-organic hulls are clean and dust-free and will not support
dust mites
- it has an infinitely adjustable shape, will not compact or bounce back |
How do I heat the flaxseed and wheatberry
warmers?
These small pillows need a very short heating period. Specific time recommendations
are included with each product, although microwave ovens vary in heating times
and we recommend you begin with a cautiously low heating period. Do not leave
product to heat in unattended oven. If a conventional oven is used for heating,
use a very low heat, monitor closely and protect from element or flame with foil.
Flaxseeds and wheatberries have a small oil content, which will help the fillings
retain their moisture and break down more slowly than drier grains. Overheating
will result in the product feeling damp, and is not recommended. |

Our Quality Fabrics |
Our meditation and yoga
support products are made with 100% cotton textiles. Liners
are either unbleached muslin or black broadcloth/drill. The
covers are made from 8, 9 or 10 ounce duck in our range of
colours. Our cotton duck fabrics are available for the travel
size pillowcase if you would like a pillow to match your Pema
Design meditation and yoga support products.
Our buckwheat hull sleep pillow covers
are made from unbleached 100% cotton twill. This durable (7.5
oz.) tight weave is very soft to the touch and washes up well.
We recommend using a pillowcase with the hull pillows, and offer
one free fitted case for each pillow ordered.
Our large size sleep pillow will fit in the regular or kingsize
pillowcase available in commercial sheet sets. |

Product Care |
Kapok fill products
Kapok fiber is naturally buoyant and waterproof. The best way to
clean your cushion is by spot cleaning or drycleaning. A kapok
filled cushion or bolster will regain its loft if placed in
the sunshine for a few hours from time to time. Be sure to
plump up your bolster or zafu after each use to help retain
its loft.
Buckwheat and Millet Hull fill products
Hulls must be kept dry. Most of our hull-filled products are
zippable, so you can pour out the hulls when it's time to wash
the covers. Empty the hulls into a paper bag or large container
(warning: they become rather static-y in plastic). Once your
cover is washed and completely dried, pour the hulls back in.
A large funnel, which can be made from boxboard or heavy paper,
makes refilling easier. |

Cotton batting products
Our zabuton and yoga
mat come with removeable washable covers. The batting, which should not be
removed from its liner, can be aired to freshen and plump up, or drycleaned. Complete
care instructions are included with each product shipped. |
