Buckwheat Hull Orthopedic Dog Beds
We decided to begin making buckwheat hull orthopedic pet beds when told, more than once, that family pets have been taking over their owners’ Pema Design Buckwheat Hull Pillows when given the opportunity.
It’s no surprise our beloved dogs and cats recognize a good thing when they come across it, and we all agree that they deserve the best!
Compared to other pet bed fills, such as polyfill, shavings or foam, buckwheat hulls will neither compact nor bounce back. The hulls shift easily and naturally to conform to the contours of your pet’s body, and the movement and stability of the hulls support nest-making movements. As your animal friends age, the support the buckwheat hull orthopedic dog beds provide will become even more important for their comfort.
The hulls allow air to move through the cushion, and will keep it fresh. The hulls themselves have a subtle natural fragrance, not overpowering to the animal’s olfactory sense as wood shavings can be.
Our pet beds are filled with cleaned & dusted certified organic Canadian-grown buckwheat hulls. The zippered liners are made with water-resistant coated polycotton. The zippered covers are made with sturdy 100% cotton duck in all of our cushion colors. Both cover and liner are machine washable. Complete care instructions are included with all beds.
YOUR DOG’S NEW PET BED
Size of bed depends on the pet’s size as well as his sleeping habits, so a dog who stretches out will be more comfortable in a larger bed; one who always curls up would be happier with a smaller one.
If you’re replacing your pet’s bed with a new one of a similar or different size, give him time to adjust. Pets unfamiliar with buckwheat hulls may be distracted by the rustling sound the hulls make when moved or the feel of the cushion itself. Beginning by covering a new bed with a familiar blanket may help. One new pet bed owner found that spending some time lounging on the bed with her dog helped him to accept it as his own.
